Staggering Bid For A Rare South Australian Number Plate Up For Auction

Staggering bid for rare SA number plate up for auction

One of only 100 ever made, the plate could fetch up to $200,000

The auction will be held on Saturday, November 19 at the Adelaide Convention Centre

A rare South Australian number plate is set to go under the hammer at auction next month, with experts predicting it could fetch up to $200,000.

The plate, which reads "SA1", is one of only 100 ever made and has been in the same family since it was first issued in 1937.

It is expected to attract strong interest from collectors, with similar plates selling for more than $300,000 in recent years.

The auction will be held on Saturday, November 19 at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

Lloyds Auctions chief operating officer Lee Hames said the plate was a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" for collectors.

"It's incredibly rare to find a number plate like this on the market," Mr Hames said.

"It's a piece of South Australian history and it's sure to attract a lot of attention from collectors."

The plate is being sold by the granddaughter of the original owner, who passed away earlier this year.

She said her grandfather was a "proud South Australian" who loved his car and his number plate.

"He was a very private man, but I know he would be thrilled to know that his number plate is going to be auctioned off and that it will be cherished by a new owner," she said.

The auction will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 19 at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
