San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has shed light on the motivation behind his cryptic social media post earlier this month referencing the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Aiyuk: 'I Was Just Having Fun'
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Aiyuk revealed that he tagged Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin in a tweet simply because he had heard the two look alike.
"I was just having fun," Aiyuk said. "I saw people saying we looked alike, so I thought I'd tweet at him and see what he said."
Aiyuk's name has been mentioned in connection with the Steelers in trade rumors, but he downplayed the significance of his social media post.
"I'm not going to read too much into it," Aiyuk said. "I just thought it was a funny coincidence."
Tomlin has not responded to Aiyuk's tweet, but the Steelers are reportedly interested in acquiring the wide receiver. Whether or not Aiyuk ends up in Pittsburgh remains to be seen, but his cryptic social media post has certainly sparked speculation.
