Hamlet at the Almeida Theatre

Andrew Scott makes his Almeida debut in the title role and Juliet Stevenson plays Gertrude in a new production

Reviewer says Andrew Scott is a "wonderfully moving Hamlet"

Andrew Scott makes his Almeida debut in the title role and Juliet Stevenson plays Gertrude in a new production of Hamlet. The production is directed by Robert Icke, who has previously directed Oresteia and The Wild Duck at the Almeida.

In his review for The Guardian, Michael Billington says that Scott is "a wonderfully moving Hamlet". He praises Scott's "intelligence, wit and emotional depth" and says that he "brings a new and exciting dimension to the role".

Billington also praises Stevenson's performance as Gertrude, saying that she "brings a steely strength and vulnerability to the role". He says that the production is "a powerful and thought-provoking reinterpretation of one of Shakespeare's greatest plays".

Hamlet is playing at the Almeida Theatre until 11 August.
